Sonic Dash - Endless Running 7.7.0

Run Sonic, Run!

Sonic, the world's fastest hedgehog gets to star in his own cloned title. If you've read my last short article you'd remember me talking about the shoulder theory. Games that build on other games get to even higher success levels. Well, I'm here to debunk it. This model has only been successful in certain cases. In most cases though, the word "clone" has a somewhat negative connotation. In the early days of Doom, the technical prowess that id Software demonstrated influenced a number of developers to create similar titles in the hopes of getting a slice of the shoot'em-up pie. In the case of Sonic Dash, we see a similar phenomenon. Not that Sonic Dash is the initiator of the infinite run genre, but rather a forgettable clone of Temple Run.

Sonic Dash

Although I must admit that the Sonic character should feel right at home in this type of game, playing it felt rather bland. Having seen this game before with different skins did not help, and it was mostly the reason why I didn't see anything special about it.

Sonic runs on a three-lane path, collecting rings and avoiding obstacles. The usual sliding becomes rolling in this case. Rolling is also used as an attack against enemy obstacles. Once in a while, you will get to a boss level, in which Sonic must avoid the attacks coming from a known negative character from the Sonic universe. These levels are somewhat harder than usual but end up an a fairly easy quick-time-event sequence.

Sonic Dash

All in all, I can't say I did not like it. It is definitely less polished than, say Subway Surfers. It is also much more demanding on hardware. So I'd say only try it if you're in love with Sonic the Hedgehog. Otherwise, try some alternatives.
